Ross Poteet

Service Pianist / Music Accompanist

I was born in San Antonio, Texas in July of 1937... just up the street from the Alamo. Our family moved to Texarkana, Texas when I was in first grade where I began piano lessons from the second grade through the sixth grade. Unfortunately, we moved before my seventh grade year and I did not have the opportunity to study piano again until I entered Junior College.

I grew up as a Methodist and attended Southwestern University, a Methodist college in Georgetown, Texas. These were wonderful years of growth and discovery. In 1960, I completed my college degree with a major in Sacred Music and a minor in Christian Education. At Southwestern, I met my wife Julie and we were married after my graduation in 1961.

My education continued when I attended Perkins School of Theology at SMU where I earned a Masters degree in Religious Education. This degree path allowed me to serve Methodist churches that wanted a person qualified to serve in the dual role of Director of Music and Christian Education. This was both an exciting and enriching time. I had the privilege of working with Sunday Schools of all levels as well as being able to use my love of music to work with Children's Choirs, Youth Choirs and the Sanctuary Choir program.

My next life-step was to be ordained and serve in a pastoral role. In every facet of my life, my wife, Julie, was my constant rock of support. Together, we raised three great children, Abbey, Anne and Chris. We worked to build a loving family and to support the church and serve the Lord.

In 2004, we retired and moved back to the Lake Jackson area and ultimately, back to the house we had purchased in 1973. Life was bringing us back to our roots. We joined the local Methodist church and later discovered the welcoming members of First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson. With the leadership of pastor, Alan Trafford and the dedicated membership of this spirit filled church, we knew that we were truly home.

Through times of great joy and of sadness, with the passing of my wife in 2012, the church has always been there for support. I encourage you to visit Covenant EPC and experience the uplifting ministries and the many styles of inspirational music. You will learn more about the church and yourself through the educational sermons that will help to guide your spiritual growth and develop your faith in God. Whether you are young or just young at heart, you will find a family of devoted Christians who will welcome you with open arms and a loving spirit.
