Helen Nutter

Choir Librarian

My choir experience started as a teen in the church choir at the Presbyterian Church in El Campo, Texas. That meant a 20 mile trip from my home in the tiny town of Garwood.

When I attended college, I was a member of a choir that sang as the chorus in a concert performance of the opera, AIDA.

No matter where I have lived I have joined the church choir when I joined the church. This includes Gibbon, Nebraska; Rosenberg, Texas and now Lake Jackson where I have belonged for 60 years.

During that time I have sung duets, solos or whatever the choir director needed me to do.

Presently I am the choir librarian. I do all I can to help the choir be the best it can be.

For most of my life I have been involved in singing the words that tell the story of faith. From my teen years until now the choir has been my home within the church family.

Singing the hymns with the congregation and contributing to the special music is a joy. To me each piece of music is a wee sermon served with the sweetness of melody.

Helen's 90th Birthday

Surrounded by her loving family, Helen Nutter celebrated her 90th birthday at the summer breakfast at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson.

The event was marked with a delicious strawberry cake with buttercream icing. There is nothing better than being surrounded by family and friends on your special day.

Helen's 60th year in CEPC choir

During the August 8th, 11:00am service at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Helen Nutter was recognized by the church and choir for her sixty years as a choir member and choir librarian.

She was presented with an original hand-written hymn text by W.P. Falconer, dated February 17, 1857. The choir and congregation performed the hymn as a part of the worship service.
